April 15, 2010 |  9:44 pm

You knew it had to happen.

The team that ended the regular season with five games that went beyond 60 minutes has gone to overtime in its playoff opener against the Vancouver Canucks.

The score is 2-2, with all four goals coming in the second period.

The Kings' last overtime playoff victory was a 1-0 decision on April 25, 2002 in Game 5 of their first-round series against Colorado. The Kings eventually lost in seven games.
