Kendry Morales named American League player of the week

Angels first baseman Kendry Morales, who hit a major league best .542 (13 for 24) with three home runs, 10 runs batted in, seven runs, 22 total bases, a .593 on-base percentage and .917 slugging percentage last week, has been named American League player of the week.

Morales was hitting .216 on April 19 when he went on a six-game tear, which included a game-winning, two-run home run in the eighth inning of Friday night’s 6-4 win over the Yankees and a game-breaking, three-run homer in the seventh inning of Sunday’s 8-4 win over the Yankees.

Morales, a switch-hitter, is now leading the Angels in average (.329), home runs (six), RBIs (16), on-base percentage (.372) and slugging percentage (.469).
