Hideki Matsui received a standing ovation in the fifth inning Monday night after lofting a single into the right-field corner against the Cleveland Indians for the 1,000th hit of his major league career.

The Angels designated hitter has 2,390 hits in his professional career, which includes 10 years with the Yomiuri Giants in Japan and seven with the New York Yankees.

Matsui, who signed a one-year, $6-million deal with the Angels last winter, needs three runs batted in for 1,500 RBIs as a professional and 24 home runs for 500 homers as a professional.
