Syracuse’s Jim Boeheim is Associated Press’ college basketball coach of the year; Ohio State’s Evan Turner is player of the year

Syracuse’s Jim Boeheim is the Associated Press’ college coach of the year, receiving 38 votes from the 65-member national media panel.

The Orange, who were unranked in the Associated Press’ preseason poll, reached No. 1 this season for the first time since 1990. Syracuse was top-seeded in the NCAA tournament and finished with a record of 30-5.

Ohio State’s Evan Turner won player of the year, receiving a whopping 54 votes from the 65-member panel.

Turner, 6-foot-7, helped his team win the Big Ten championship while averaging 20.3 points, 9.2 rebounds and 5.9 assists.

Turner is the first player from Ohio State to receive the award since Gary Bradds in 1964.
