Angels catcher Jeff Mathis, whose right hand was injured in Monday’s game, is not in the lineup Tuesday as the club awaits the results of his X-rays.

Mathis reported to the ballpark Tuesday with the hand in a brace, and he said he still felt soreness. The Angels appear concerned that he might miss some playing time, but Mathis said he had not been told whether he would need to go on the disabled list. Manager Mike Scioscia said the club would await the direction of Dr. Lewis Yocum, who was expected to provide a diagnosis and report later Tuesday.

If Mathis goes on the disabled list, Scioscia said the Angels would not call up another catcher to back up Mike Napoli and Bobby Wilson. Napoli is in the starting lineup Tuesday.
