In an effort to put a Southern California stamp on the All-Star game, this is what Major League Baseball came up with: outsized Mickey Mouse statues, all over Southern California!

The 36 statues, weighing 989 pounds apiece and standing 7 1/2 feet tall, will appear at various landmarks around the region, although MLB won’t say where just yet. Let’s just say the statues won’t be confined to Anaheim.

One statue will be decorated with the Angels logo, one with the Dodgers logo and one with the logo of every other major league club. That’s 30 in all, and the other six will include an American League statue, a National League statue and four with All-Star game designs.

‘These Mickey Mouse statuettes will allow fans of all 30 clubs to share in the excitement of All-Star summer even if they can’t make it to Anaheim for the festivities,’ MLB President Bob DuPuy said.

Statuettes? Those would be the 7 1/2-inch versions on sale today on the MLB website, for $24.99 each.
