Tennis moves from Indian Wells to Key Biscayne, Fla., next week and the Sony Ericsson Open put out a release on its website Friday proclaiming that Venus Williams will headline the Thursday night schedule. And, oh, you had to read the entire release to find out that Serena Williams has pulled out of the tournament with a knee injury.

That’s what’s known in the news business as ‘burying the lead.’ Mystery always surrounds the Williams sisters, but they mostly live in Florida and have supported the Sony Ericsson event so this seems to mean Serena must have a pretty serious knee injury.

Maria Sharapova also pulled out, with the bruised elbow that she complained of at Indian Wells.
