After holding a comfortable lead for nearly the entire game, eighth-seeded Arizona held off a late charge from ninth-seeded Washington State to win, 62-60, Thursday at the Galen Center, advancing to the quarterfinals of the State Farm Pacific 10 Conference women’s tournament against top-seeded Stanford.

WSU’s April Cook missed a desperation three-point shot from near half-court at the buzzer that ended the game. She led Washington State with 18 points on six-of-16 shooting from the floor.

Arizona forward Soana Lucet led the Wildcats with 22 points on 10-of-14 shooting.

Behind Lucet, the Wildcats controlled the points-in-the-paint category, 38-22, but the game was still plagued with a combined 45 turnovers.

Arizona faces Stanford, a group that steamrolled to a 28-1 regular-season record and 18-0 mark in league play, at 1:15 p.m. tomorrow. The Wildcats lost both regular-season games to the Cardinal by an average of 24 points.
