Congratulations are in order for center Mitch Wahl of Seal Beach, who was voted to the junior-level Western Hockey League’s end-of-season first all-star team after a 30-goal, 96-point season for Spokane.

Wahl, who played in the California Wave hockey program and spent one year with the L.A. Junior Kings, was chosen by the Calgary Flames in the second round of last year’s NHL draft and recently signed an entry-level contract.

He’s one of many kids from Southern California who are making an impact in the junior and college ranks, sort of a second-generation Wayne Gretzky effect. You’ll hear more from him in the future.
