ESPN is reporting that Ducks defenseman James Wisniewski will be suspended eight games without pay by the NHL for his vicious hit on Chicago defenseman Brent Seabrook in the teams’ game Wednesday night at Anaheim.

Seabrook was dazed by the hit, which Wisniewski delivered high and hard and after his skates had lost contact with the ice.

We’ll have more when the punishment is confirmed. The Blackhawks have scheduled a news conference at 5:30 p.m., two hours before they will face the Kings at Staples Center, and we’ll have their reaction to the league’s sentence.

[Updated 2:35 p.m.: TSN is also reporting that Wisniewski will be suspended eight games.]
