Dwight Gooden has been charged in New Jersey with driving under the influence of drugs and leaving the scene of an accident, the Associated Press is reporting.

According to Franklin Lakes police Capt. Joseph Seltenrich, the 45-year-old former star pitcher for the New York Mets and Yankees had a child in his vehicle at the time of the two-vehicle crash around 9 a.m. Tuesday.

Gooden was also charged with child endangerment and numerous motor vehicle violations, police said. He was released on his own recognizance until a municipal court hearing.

Gooden’s struggles with alcohol and drugs, including cocaine, have been well-publicized. The police did not say what drugs Gooden was thought to have been on during the incident.
