Ducks acquire veteran defenseman Aaron Ward from Carolina

Ward The Ducks added a physical veteran defenseman for their playoff push by trading for Aaron Ward of the Carolina Hurricanes before Wednesday's noon PST deadline.

The Ducks sent minor league goaltender Justin Pogge and a fourth-round draft pick to Carolina.

The 6-foot-2, 209-pound Ward, 37, won three Stanley Cups in 15 seasons as a Detroit Red Wing. He has one goal and 11 points with 54 penalty minutes and a minus-17 defensive rating this season and was in the final season of his contract.

"Aaron Ward brings valuable experience and is a proven winner with three Stanley Cup championships," Ducks General Manager Bob Murray said. "We are pleased to bring him on board."

We'll have more on this other trade deadline moves later at latimes.com/sports.
