Kevin Weiberg, the former Big 12 commissioner and Big Ten executive, will become the Pacific 10 Conference’s deputy commissioner and chief operating officer this spring, the conference announced today.

‘We are thrilled to welcome one of the most respected and successful leaders in intercollegiate athletics to the Pac-10 Conference,’ Pac-10 commissioner Larry Scott said in a release.

Weiberg is currently CEO of iHoops, a joint venture with the NCAA and NBA designed to improve youth basketball in America. Prior to that, he served as vice president of university planning and development for the Big Ten Network and also as the deputy commissioner of the conference under Jim Delany from 1989 to 1998. He served as the Big 12’s commissioner from 1998 to 2007.

Weiberg said he enjoyed being a part of iHoops, but that ‘the unique opportunity to join [Scott] ... was one I could not resist.’
