Stephen Myles, who coached the Galaxy’s under-16 team for two seasons and who has been assistant director of the David Beckham Academy at the Home Depot Center since 2005, was hired Wednesday as assistant coach of Major League Soccer’s New England Revolution.

Myles, 48, spent nine years in the youth system of Sheffield United in his native England and has a UEFA ‘A’ coaching license. He replaces former England international Paul Mariner, who stepped down as Revolution assistant coach in October to take charge of Plymouth Argyle in the English Championship.

‘He’s someone who will fit in well with us in the way he goes about his job, the experience that he has and the knowledge that he’ll bring to our staff,’ New England Coach Steve Nicol said Wednesday.

The Galaxy opens its 2010 MLS season against the Revolution on March 27 at the Home Depot Center.
