Montoya blows engine in NASCAR race

Juan Pablo Montoya blew an engine and had to withdraw from the Auto Club 500 in Fontana.

Montoya started the race on the front row alongside pole winner Jamie McMurray.

Jeff Gordon was in the lead on the restart on lap 145. Ryan Newman was in second, followed by Kurt Busch, Sam Hornish and Denny Hamlin.

Jimmie Johnson was in sixth after pitting during the caution period. He has led a race-high 77 laps.

Newman blew his engine on lap 146, right after the restart.
