The wife of former world heavyweight boxing champion Evander Holyfield has filed for a protective order against him in Georgia, alleging he committed a violent act against her in the presence of two of their children. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution first reported Candi Holyfield’s court filing.

The Holyfields were married in 2003.

The news Thursday comes on a historic day in boxing. Holyfield, who defeated Mike Tyson twice, was a key player following a legendary upset 20 years ago: James ‘Buster’ Douglas shocked Tyson with a 10th-round TKO in Japan. Holyfield fought Douglas next, beating him to win the heavyweight title.

Holyfield was due to fight later this month in Uganda against Francois Botha, but the bout was called off, with discussions of rescheduling next month. The fight plans are uncertain now.
