Though he had said late last year that he expected to defend his Los Angeles Open tennis title, Santa Monica resident Sam Querrey officially announced Monday that he will be in the field for the tournament that will be held July 26-Aug. 1 at UCLA. Querrey won the U.S. Open Series title in large part because of his win at the Los Angeles.

Already committed are the world’s second-ranked player, Novak Djokovic, and defending U.S. Open winner Juan Martin del Potro as well as the world’s top doubles team, defending L.A. Open champions Mike and Bob Bryan, who won the Australian Open doubles title last week, their fourth.

If you want to hear the Bryans make music instead of play tennis, go to the Viper Room Wednesday night. Their Bryan Brothers Band featuring David Baron will be on stage. Counting Crows drummer Jim Bogios will play a set with the brothers.

Already the field is stronger than last year’s when Tommy Haas and Mardy Fish were the top two seeds.
