Still no decision on Angels' TV broadcast team

Angels No decision has yet been reached on the Angels' television broadcasting team for this season, although the search is "progressing rapidly," Angels spokesman Tim Mead said Friday at the team's spring training park, Tempe Diablo Stadium, in Arizona.

"There have been a lot of submissions from a lot of quality people,” he said, adding that an announcement would be made “as soon as possible.”

The search was needed because Rory Markas died suddenly Jan. 4 at age 54. Markas was scheduled to do the TV play-by-play with Mark Gubicza as the analyst. Terry Smith and Jose Mota are set to handle the Angels' radio broadcasts, with Smith -- and, at times, Mota -- also handling the spring-training TV broadcasts on a simulcast basis, Mead said.

Most of the spring-training games will be televised on Fox Sports West, starting with the Angels' spring opener against the Chicago White Sox on March 4.
