New England Patriots receiver Wes Welker injured his left knee in the first quarter of today’s game in Houston, and the team said he would not return.

Welker caught a pass from Tom Brady on New England’s first possession, and his knee appeared to buckle as he turned upfield. Trainers helped Welker off the field and he was taken to the locker room on a cart.

Welker began the game with 122 catches for 1,336 yards and four touchdowns this season.

But the big news for the Patriots today is the report that Brady has been playing for the last few weeks with three broken ribs, according to CBS Sports.

The Patriots had added ribs to the injury report for Brady the week after he took a big hit against the Dolphins in Week 13 and briefly left the field to go to the locker room. He didn’t miss any plays in the game.

Despite the report, a Patriots spokesman said he was not aware of Brady having broken ribs, according to the Associated Press.
