USC football: Quarterback Matt Barkley has wrist surgery

USC quarterback Matt Barkley underwent surgery on his right wrist this morning. He is expected to be ready to participate in spring practice in late March, the school announced.

Fabforum USC described the procedure as "minor" and said it was done to "relieve stiffness and clean up inflammation."

Barkley never complained of a wrist problem last season when he started 12 games as a true freshman.

Barkley suffered a shoulder injury in the second game against Ohio State and did not play against Washington. He finished the season with 15 touchdown passes and 14 interceptions.

I'll have more later at latimes.com/sports.
