Texas-sized sticker shock

A number of airplanes dragging advertising banners are circling the Rose Bowl. But Texas fan Tim Hester of Concan, Texas, is doing his selling the old-fashioned way: by word of mouth.

Hester, who has a “shrine to Texas football” in his house, is vacationing in Southern California to watch Texas play Alabama in the BCS national title game.

“Tell everybody to come to Concan and take a vacation by the Frio River,” Hester said.

Hester, by coincidence, runs the Frio Family Getaways.

“For $400 you can get a cabin, an inner tube and a kayak,” Hester said.

And what does $400 get you in Southern California?

“Two beers over there at the ESPN area,” Hester said.
