The Kings on Wednesday recalled defenseman Alec Martinez from Manchester of the American Hockey League and put defenseman Randy Jones on the injured reserve list, retroactive to Dec. 16.

Jones’ situation is curious. He hasn’t played since he collided with the Oilers’ Dustin Penner during the Kings’ game Dec. 15 at Edmonton and has had a stiff neck, dizziness, wooziness and discomfort when he tried to exercise. But the Kings never called it a concussion, sticking to that ever-popular ‘upper body’ catchall description.

Martinez started the season with the Kings, injured his ankle and went to Manchester and then returned for one game on Dec. 17 before going back to the Monarchs. He has three goals, eight points and a +3 defensive rating in 19 games with Manchester this season.

The Kings open a seven-game homestand on Thursday by facing the Red Wings, who lost to the Ducks Tuesday night at Anaheim.
