Details of Jonathan Broxton's new contract with the Dodgers
Jonathan Broxton's two-year, $11-million deal with the Dodgers has an escalator clause that can increase the closer's base salary in the second year of his contract by as much as $500,000.
By finishing 68 games or ending the season in first place in the Rolaids Relief Man Award standings this year, Broxton can get an additional $500,000 added to his guaranteed 2011 salary of $7 million. Finishing 64 games or ending the season in second place in the Rolaids standings would earn him an extra $400,000 next year; 60 games or third place, $300,000; 56 games or fourth place, $200,000; and 53 games or fifth place, $100,000.
The escalators are non-cumulative, so if, say, Broxton finishes 64 games and is fourth in the Rolaids standings this year, he would get an extra $400,000 in 2011.
Broxton finished 58 games and was third in the NL Rolaids standings last season behind Heath Bell and Ryan Franklin.
