Right wing Wayne Simmonds, who has been one of the Kings’ most consistently effective players all over the ice, will be out ‘for a while’ because of an injury that Coach Terry Murray said could not be traced to one play or specific moment.

Here’s what Murray had to say this morning.

It’s a tough loss, but the Kings have managed to withstand the absence of winger Ryan Smyth since Nov. 16. It’s looking more and more like Smyth might return during the Kings’ trip next week to Vancouver, Edmonton and Calgary.

Simmonds is due to see a team doctor tonight, and his teammates are preparing to face the Dallas Stars at Staples Center. The second-year forward has nine goals and 20 points in 33 games, lately playing alongside Michal Handzus and Scott Parse.

Peter Harrold will return to the lineup on the wing, and Davis Drewiske, a seventh defenseman during the Kings’ 3-2 shootout victory over Phoenix on Thursday, will be scratched from the lineup.
