The St. Louis Cardinals have offered outfielder Matt Holliday an eight-year deal that could be worth up to $128 million, according to Joe Strauss of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. It’s unclear at this point how many of the seasons are option years, if any.
The deal would top the seven-year, $100-million deal Albert Pujols signed after the 2003 season and sets Pujols up to ask for a massive amount of money when his contract expires.
Strauss writes that the only other team believed to be a threat to landing Holliday is the New York Yankees.
Holliday’s agent? Scott Boras, of course.
