The Kings have recalled forward Corey Elkins from the Manchester Monarchs of the American Hockey League to replace injured forward Wayne Simmonds, General Manager Dean Lombardi announced today. Simmonds is scheduled to undergo knee surgery today.

Elkins, 24, is currently Manchester’s co-leader with 19 points and eight goals (8-11=19). He also shares the team lead with three power-play goals.

The Michigan native spent the previous four years at Ohio State. Last season, his senior year, Elkins recorded 41 points (18-23=41) in 42 games. His 41 points and 18 goals led Ohio State and his plus-24 rating co-led the team. With the emergency recall, Elkins, who was signed by the Kings as an unrestricted free agent on March 31, is expected to join the team in time for Tuesday’s game against the Edmonton Oilers. He will wear No. 47.
