Brian Kelly meets Notre Dame fans

A thunderous applause filled Joyce Center as Brian Kelly was introduced to Notre Dame fans as the new football coach this morning.

Kelly strode onto the basketball court at halftime of the UCLA-Notre Dame basketball game and talked about next season.

"Two hundred and fifty-nine days," he yelled. "Get yourself ready."

The former Cincinnati coach referred to the fact that Irish students remain standing during games and do push-ups for every point scored.

"You'd better use this holiday to get in shape," he said. "Because you're going to be doing a lot of push-ups."

Notre Dame declined to participate in a bowl game this season, so Kelly won't have a chance to watch his new team work out until spring practice.
