The biggest news from last week’s Latin Grammy Awards wasn’t the fact that urban duo Calle 13 won five awards. The biggest news were those photos of a celebrity fan, prompting gasps of ‘What happened to Sammy Sosa?’ as they made their way around the Internet.

In these photos, Sosa’s skin appears several shades lighter than usual, leading to all sorts of Internet speculation.

‘He’s not trying to be Michael Jackson,’ former Chicago Cubs employee Rebecca Polihronis, who talks frequently with Sosa, told the Chicago Tribune.

‘He is going through a rejuvenation process for his skin. Women have it all of the time. He was surprised he came out looking so white. I thought it was a body double. Part of [the photo appearance] is just the lighting.’ Polihronis said Sosa told her the photos are deceiving.
