OK, not a true homecoming because, after all, Kurt Rambis and his Timberwolves are playing the Clippers tonight, not the Lakers. But Rambis, the longtime Lakers fixture, held court in the hallway outside Minnesota’s locker room at great length for the local media. Look for Mark Heisler’s column on the return of Rambis later on latimes.com.

Rambis did say he has been texting back and forth with his mentor Phil Jackson. Jackson apparently told Rambis that the Timberwolves were running the triangle offense better than the Lakers.

‘I disagreed with him,’ Rambis said, smiling.

The Timberwolves (1-2) are coming off a loss Sunday night at Phoenix but Rambis thought they did their most consistent job of running the triangle in the three games.

On Monday, the first task for Rambis upon arriving at Staples Center was finding the right locker room. He said he asked where it was. The place does look a little different from last June.

‘I was a little surprised,’ he said. ‘I haven’t been here since they put up the faux paneling’ in the hallways.
