Robert Hight won the funny car portion of the National Hot Rod Assn. races at the Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Sunday and continued his unlikely championship run.

It was his third win in the first five races of the NHRA Countdown to One playoffs. He has a 105-point lead over Ashley Force Hood with one event remaining, the season finale at Auto Club Raceway in Pomona from Nov. 12-15.

Hight was the 10th and last driver to qualify for the funny car Countdown playoff field.

Larry Dixon, a Van Nuys High graduate, lost in the NHRA top fuel final at Las Vegas to Spencer Massey. But Dixon trimmed Tony Schumacher’s lead in the top fuel standings to one point. Schumacher lost in the second round at Las Vegas.
