Auto racing playoffs do not work. Jimmie Johnson has dominated the NASCAR Chase playoffs for four years in a row. Barring disaster, Johnson will win his fourth straight Cup championship under the Chase playoff system.

It's no better in the National Hot Rod Assn. playoffs. The Countdown to One format has created one tight race in the drag racing divisions. The other three are all but decided with one race to go, this weekend's event at Auto Club Raceway in Pomona.

Tony Schumacher leads Larry Dixon by one point in the top fuel standings.

In the funny car division, Robert Hight holds a 105-point lead over Ashley Force Hood. The lead in the pro stock division is even wider. Mike Edwards leads Greg Anderson by 139 points.

Go to Haddock in the Paddock for comments from the drivers in the NHRA races at Pomona.
