Quarterback Matt Barkley is not “playing as good of football as anybody we have ever had,” as USC Coach Pete Carroll euphorically stated -- and then later softened -- after USC’s victory over California.

But the freshman is performing at a high level and the seventh-ranked Trojans are 4-1.

So where does that leave backup Aaron Corp?

The redshirt sophomore was the starter until he suffered a cracked fibula during training camp. He was in the lineup, without a public pronouncement by Carroll, against Washington, but struggled in the Trojans’ only loss at Seattle.

Corp fumbled in a brief appearance against Washington State and then did not play against Cal despite a 30-3 Trojans lead in the fourth quarter.

Asked Tuesday if he was frustrated, Corp said: “It is what it is. I mean, obviously, I’m not happy. But it’s kind of the cards I’m dealt and I’m just going to keep working hard.

“Maybe I’ll get another opportunity; I just have to be ready.”
