USC football: Jurrell Casey and Matt Barkley earn recognition

USC defensive tackle Jurrell Casey was selected as the Pacific 10 Conference defensive player of the week and Matt Barkley was recognized by the Davey O’Brien Foundation as the national quarterback of the week for their performances in USC’s 34-27 victory over Notre Dame.

Casey, a sophomore, had 10 tackles and forced a fumble.

Barkley, a freshman, passed for a career-best 380 yards and two touchdowns as the Trojans defeated the Fighting Irish for the eighth consecutive time.

USC resumes its Pac-10 schedule against Oregon State on Saturday at the Coliseum.
