Legendary UCLA basketball coach John Wooden turns 99 today, giving fans another chance to reminisce about the extraordinary achievements of his team and the coach’s life, in general.

In today’s Times, Mike Penner offers a tribute with ‘99 things about John Wooden’ that you may or may not have known, including the well-covered territory of Wooden’s UCLA teams having won an unprecedented 10 national championships in 12 years -- a feat unlikely to ever be matched in men’s basketball.

Wooden’s 99th birthday also will mark the release of his 10th book. This one is called ‘A Game Plan for Life: The Power of Mentoring,’ which he co-authored with former Sports Illustrated reporter Don Yaeger.

In conjunction with the release of the book, a website -- happybirthdayjohnwooden.com -- has been established where fans can send Wooden birthday wishes.

We certainly wish him many, many more to come.
