Thursday's poll: Who is the true face of the Dodgers?

October 28, 2009 | 10:16 pm

In her court papers, Jamie McCourt described herself as the "face of the Dodgers." But is she? Who do you think of when you think of the Dodgers? Vote now and let your voice be heard, then leave a comment letting us know why you voted the way you did.

Vin Scully is, and will ever be, the 'face' fo the Dodgers.
But, for some reason, I cannot understand why he hangs on to this new Dodger era....
What is happening in Dodgerville is disgraceful.

Need I say more. Vin has been thier since I was a kid and has been thier since the Brooklyn days and I am only 36 years old. Maybe Vin should buy the Dodgers from the McCourts.....

Tommy Lasorda is the face and Vin Scully is the voice.

The following was sent to Steve Dilbeck a while back.

I wanted to comment on the very fine job that Mr. Scully does on such a consistent basis.

Last evening I was busy doing chores around home and did not have much time for watching the Dodgers on television. I did however turn the game on and listened as I went about my work. What a performance by a professional broadcaster. As I listened I was reminded of my younger days when radio was a common media for us to get our ball scores or play by play. In a word Mr. Scully was articulate last night. He not only kept up the running commentary on the game at hand he also kept us up to date on what was happening around the league. With the playoff situation being so close this was a huge plus for me. I recalled an interview he once gave where he described Red Barber teaching him little tricks about keeping the audience at full attention. I imagined him sitting in his booth with his old egg timer in front of him patiently waiting for the next turn to update us on the box scores.

All of this brought home to me the joy of just listening to a professional do his job and a little extra to help out the fan!

Tommy Lasorda and Vin Scully are the only constants in the last 50 years of the Dodgers. Tommy is the face and Vin is the voice of the Dodger. Send the McCourts packing and get this team the ownership it deserves!

2010 will be Vinny's last year with the boys in blue. I'd hate to see next season marred with this stupid divorce. These people have only been around for a few years...Vin came with the team from Brooklyn. That's the real face of the Dodgers right there.

Tommy, Tommy, Tommy.
Jaimie needs to go off with her new boy toy and leave the Dodgers alone.... better off without her.
Face of the Dodgers?
I didn't even know what she looked like until this divorce.
Tommy always has and always will bleed DODGER BLUE.
So will I.

Duh. Let's see. Who has been with the Dodgers for more than half a century? And whose departure will Dodger fans miss more than Vinny? And, whose departure will make us feel that it just isn't the same anymore? He is the voice, the face, and the soul of the Dodgers. He is the person who brings class to a team that does not always display it (e.g., Manny, and the current divorce battles).

So how does Jamie get 7 votes (as of my post)? Did she vote seven times?

For me, Vin is the face of the Dodgers, although I do understand those who vote for Lasorda. Tommy has certainly been a visible ambassador for the Dodgers and baseball generally for many years, but when I think of the Dodgers, the words of Vinny are what I "see"—

"Two and two to Harvey Kuenn, one strike away. Sandy into his windup, here's the pitch: Swung on and missed, a perfect game … On the scoreboard in right field it is 9:46 p.m. in the City of the Angels, Los Angeles, California. And a crowd of twenty-nine thousand one-hundred thirty nine just sitting in to see the only pitcher in baseball history to hurl four no-hit, no-run games. He has done it four straight years, and now he caps it: On his fourth no-hitter he made it a perfect game. And Sandy Koufax, whose name will always remind you of strikeouts, did it with a flourish—he struck out the last six consecutive batters. So when he wrote his name in capital letters in the record books, that "K" stands out even more than the O-U-F-A-X." (1965)

"All year long they looked to him to light the fire and all year long he answered the demands. High fly ball into right field. She is gone! … In a year that has been so improbable, the impossible has happened." (1988)

"And a high fly ball to left field, it is a-way out and gone! The Dodgers win it 11-10! Unbelievable! … I forgot to tell you—the Dodgers are in first place." (2006)

Vin embodies the Dodgers past and present and is the one constant in this ever changing world of baseball....

Win Vin retires, the Dodgers will lose face.

Sorry, but Vin and Tommy are NOT the "face" of the Dodgers. They are the most popular Dodgers but not the face.

The face of the Dodgers is the owner, Frank McCourt. Just like Walter O'Malley used to be the face of the Dodgers. For good or bad, the face of the Dodgers is McCourt.

Uncle Vin.

Vin is the voice, but Tommy is the face.

I was in grammar school when Sister Alma Joseph (St Agnes grade school @ Vermont and Adams) would turn the radio on and we would hear the Brooklyn Dodgers VS Yankees in the World Series. It was the voice of Vin Scully, than the Dodgers came to Los Angeles that brought enthusiasm to the City never seen before. We would go to games at the Coliseum and listen on the radio at the same time; He was also seen constantly on TV, broadcasting the games simultaneously. Vin Scully was the voice of the Dodgers through the Dodgers history from Campy, Jackie Robinson, Sandy, Don Drysdale, Tommy Lasorda, Joe Torre, Manny and the three owners, the only constant voice and face has been Mr. Vin Scully. This to me put Vin Scully as the voice and the FACE of the Dodgers, too bad he does not own them, he should!!
Vin Scully a Dodger from 1950 till today! Tommy Lasorda has been in the organization since 1949 but he was not as visible as Vin Scully until he became the manager of the team.

Vin Scully, no doubt.

>>>Tommy Lasorda is the face and Vin Scully is the voice.

I agree.

Vin Scully's the best and most consistent Dodger ever. I hope the McCourts don't screw this up

I never liked the McCourts for the very reason all of this is happening.

Jaime would make a great character on that new ABC sitcom, "Cougar".

Tommy Lasorda is a disgrace. If you ever meet him you'll know why there is so much a buzz about what an awful human being he is. He turns it on for the camera but is just a disgrace to the Dodger blue. The only reason he hung around so long was by the good graces of the O'Malley family.
Vin Scully was there from the beginning and STILL the best!

Vin the voice & Tommy the face
Jami McCourt comes in at a close 154,379th

How in the HECK did Jamie McCourt get 275 votes? Are she and her bodyguard/boy-toy voting on this poll? What a disgrace.

Vinny is the voice.
Tommy is the face.

Both have indelibly graced my life.

Hee-Seop Choi is the face of the Dodgers!!!!
