You’re the general manager of a baseball team that’s a day away from its playoff opener. Where do you spend your night off?

At a hockey game, of course, if you’re Ned Colletti.

The Dodgers’ general manager, who was a hockey writer and covered the Flyers for the now-defunct Philadelphia Journal in a previous life, went to the Kings’ game against San Jose on Tuesday as a guest of Sharks General Manager Doug Wilson. He and Wilson share a Chicago background: Colletti grew up there and was an executive with the Cubs, and Wilson played for the Blackhawks for many years.

‘I’ve known him 25 years,’ Wilson said. ‘He used to skate with us sometimes.’

Colletti also made a trip with the Ducks two seasons ago and took another with the Toronto Maple Leafs last season on the invitation of Brian Burke, the Ducks’ former general manager.

Hmmm ... that left Dean Lombardi as the only general manager in the arena whose team hasn’t made the playoffs ...
