Shadows again

The shadows don’t only bother the players. It’s also blinding some of the camera shots for us.

Well said, Joe

These mini-interview with the managers from the dugout are good. Tony La Russa said he hoped his Cards’ failure to capitalize more on some early hits and Dodger goofs wouldn’t ‘come back and haunt us later,’ and when Joe Torre was asked about what other pitchers he might compare Clayton Kershaw to, Torre laughed and said he’d once mentioned Sandy Koufax but immediately wanted to ‘bite my tongue.’ Take your cue from Joe, Dick Stockton and Bob Brenly.

General television complaint

I know why, but, really, why is it the the commercials are always so much louder than what it is you’re watching? I’m less inclined to buy Captain Morgan’s after two days of baseball watching. I’ll only associate the stuff with making my ears hurt.

Shadows here

Bob Brenly told us early that as beautiful as the field looked in the bright afternoon sun, that the downside would be the shadow over home plate ‘in the late innings.’ The shadows have arrived, in the bottom of the second, but it was a smart pick up by Brenly to note that the shadows are going to matter.

Don’t trust what you hear at first

Dick Stockton just said the Cards’ Mark DeRosa struck out on a high fast ball. Bob Brenly gentled stepped in and said it was a slider. My baseball guy says it was a curve. But definitely not a fast ball.

Nice info, but a little late

A true baseball fan here commented, just before Matt Holliday clubbed his home run, that balls really carry during day Dodger game. Holliday’s ball carried. Bob Brenly then noted how balls really carry here during the day. It was an echo but my baseball guy was first.

Dodgers on twice, for now

Rockies just beat the Phillies 5-4 so, at least until the bottom of the first is over, the Dodgers-Cardinals game is being double-covered, on both TBS and TNT. Which I know doesn’t help viewers who don’t have cable television. And there are more than a few of you. Baseball, frankly, is way past that ‘only over the air’ free stuff for the division series.

Really, Kershaw compared to Koufax?

Bob Brenly, who is usually quite good, just said that Clayton Kershaw has been compared to a young Sandy Koufax but that Kershaw has ‘got a way to go to equal those numbers.’ OK, yes, quite a long way.

Dodgers get the switcheroo again

Once again, the Dodgers will be on two channels today against the Cardinals. The game is on TNT again while the Rockies and Phillies finish (bottom of the ninth, Colorado up a run). And then Dodgers fans will have to tune into TBS at some later point.
