Tape delay

Was on the phone with hubby who is in an northern Indiana Holiday Inn Express and his television feed was about three minutes ahead of mine here in Orange County via Cox. Does the signal make stops in different time zones? He was saying, ‘Do you hear the crowd?’ and Rollins hadn’t even come to bat yet.

Broxton gets out fast

Dodger closer Jonathan Broxton was almost in the dugout before the winning run scored. He was gone more quickly than Jimmy Rollins’ game winner slammed into right center.

Dodger fans shouldn’t be reassured

Buck Martinez tells us that Ryan Howard is 0-for-10 against Jonathan. Broxton, just as Joe Torre leaves George Sherrill in the game and Broxton in the bullpen. Sherrill gets the K and even the annoying whistler and high-pitched shouter have been silenced for the moment.

My ears

How ever TBS has the sound wired around the field, it is picking up the voice of one very annoying whistler and one very loudmouthed and high-pitched female whose constant screeching of ‘Come on, Ryan,’ during this top of the eighth was more than distracting. It really hurt! I believe I heard small animals in the neighborhood howling.

Did we just see what we just saw?

We did. Manny Ramirez caught a sinking line drive. With a smirk on his face. As Buck Martinez said, ‘If that thing gets by him they’re running all day.’

Never too much Koufax

What a treat to see the upclose shot of Sandy Koufax standing and cheering and wearing his Dodger blue in the sea of Phillie red.

Enough about the Yankees

The TBS crew was busy dissecting the base running error by the Angels’ Bobby Abreu, busy praising the Yankees’ Derek Jeter on said play and busy worshipping Yankee first baseman Mark Teixeira (the Yankees lost said game 5-4 by the way) and by doing so almost missed Matt Kemp’s go-ahead home run for the Dodgers just now. Shut up about the Yankees already. It’s not your game.

Phillies fans feeling enabled?

Perhaps because of the recent 11-0 drubbing of the Dodgers Sunday night plus the quick 2-0 lead tonight (gone now of course) but it sounded as if the crowd was chanting: ‘You use steroids,’ to Manny Ramirez in a much more loudly bold way tonight.

Joe Torre gets his shot in

TBS analyst Buck Martinez interviews Dodger manager Joe Torre about how to stop Phillies slugger Ryan Howard. ‘Getting better counts, that’s one. (Randy) Wolf(ie) was pretty close with some pitches...I’m not too sure they weren’t strikes.’

And then Wolf threw three pitches to Jimmy Rollins. According to the TBS PitchTrax, all three were strikes. But Wolf had a 3-0 count on Rollins.

Ryan Howard 2, Dodgers 0

Kinda can’t argue with Chip Caray about that lead in to the bottom of the third inning.
