Sportswriters make picks all the time about which team is going to win -- it’s part of the job. Although, in private, many will say they’d prefer to skip making picks in public because, let’s face it, none of us have retired to Las Vegas yet.

Still, the Boston Globe’s six-person contingent covering the Red Sox made their picks on the ALDS series, and not surprisingly, five of them picked Boston to win the series over Mike Scioscia’s Angels.

Why? Dan Shaughnessy wrote: ‘Red Sox in 3: Spooked Halos sing to the tune of ‘Roll Over Beethoven.’ ‘ Bob Ryan: ‘Red Sox in 5: Jon Lester, you da man.’ Amalie Benjamin: ‘Red Sox in 5: Angels have to beat the Sox at some point, just not this point.’ Adam Kilgore: ‘Red Sox in 5: The Angels have the better lineup. The Sox have Jon Lester.’ Peter Abraham: ‘Red Sox in 4: Matsuzaka rises to challenge in Game 4.’

The lone dissenter among the Globe’s savants, Nick Cafardo: ‘Angels in 5: Kazmir teaches Halos how to win at Fenway.’
