Kings' Anze Kopitar named NHL star of the week; Rob Scuderi's hit generates controversy

October 26, 2009 | 10:30 am

The Kings continue to impress, picking up their fourth consecutive victory against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Sunday.

And thanks to his two-goal performance, Anze Kopitar, who was named the NHL's first star of the week on Monday, continues to lead the league in scoring. The Kings are off to their best start since the 2005-06 season and the fans have plenty of reasons to remain optimistic that the team won't suffer an Olympic-year collapse like they did four years ago.

Speaking of collapses, how about that head-over-heels hip check by defenseman Rob Scuderi on Blue Jackets forward Jason Chimera? It supposedly was a legal hit, but I thought it was a bit unnecessary to go that low. Check it out:

What do you think of the hit? Was it worth going after a guy like that who's never tallied more than 36 points in an NHL season? Plus, where do you think Kopitar will end up among the top scorers in the league this season?
