This week’s fake Bowl Championship Series standings question: What’s worse, losing to a Washington team that went 0-12 last year or beating Kansas State?

Answer: losing to Washington, but it’s closer than you would think. USC surrendered 10 ranking positions in the still comically-early simulated BCS standings, the Trojans dropping from No.1 to No. 11 after Saturday’s 16-13 defeat to half of USC’s former coaching staff.

But get this: UCLA improved to 3-0 with a home win over Kansas State and fell six spots to No. 38 in the fake BCS index.

Why should the Bruins get penalized for starting Kevin Craft at quarterback?

Alabama took advantage of a huge win over Texas (North) and that, coupled with last week’s enormous victory against Florida (International), lifted the Crimson Tide to No.1.

Reaction: Isn’t it nice to see Alabama first in something?

Here’s is the phony BCS baloney top 10: Alabama, Texas, Florida, LSU, California, Boise State, Penn State, Miami, Mississippi and Cincinnati.

The real BCS standings, which can often be as funny as anything you could make up, make their debut on Oct. 18.
