USC quarterback Matt Barkley‘s bruised right shoulder ‘will be OK,’ and he is expected to practice this week in preparation for Saturday’s Pacific 10 Conference opener at Washington, Coach Pete Carroll said in a statement on the school’s website.

Barkley was injured in the second half of USC’s 18-15 victory at Ohio State and he remained sore Sunday. Further tests revealed only a bruise, according the school.

Barkley completed 15 of 31 passes for 195 yards with an interception against Ohio State.

Carroll also said that safety Taylor Mays, who suffered a knee sprain against the Buckeyes, is expected to practice this week.
