USC tailback Marc Tyler did not practice today in Dublin, Ohio, and probably won’t play on Saturday against Ohio State because of a sprained toe, Coach Pete Carroll said.

Tyler, a third-year sophomore, was injured during practice on Thursday before the Trojans departed for Ohio. Tyler rushed for 72 yards and a touchdown in the opener against San Jose State. His 63-yard run set up his one-yard touchdown.

Offensive lineman Butch Lewis, who started the opener at left guard, appears recovered from an ankle injury. But center Kristofer O’Dowd is back from a dislocated kneecap, so O’Dowd will start and Jeff Byers will start at left guard.

Safety Drew McAllister (hip) is on the trip. His availability will be determined at game time, Carroll said.
