Derrick Bryant, a defensive end from Columbus (Ohio) Brookhaven High, said he has orally committed to UCLA. Bryant, who is 6 feet 4, 230 pounds, is ranked the 29th best defensive end by Rivals.com. He made his official visit to UCLA last weekend.

“I just liked everything,” Bryant said. “My entire visit, everything I saw, sold me. This is where I was coming hands down. I loved the atmosphere, looking out at the hills around the school, seeing all those houses, the atmosphere, being between Beverly Hills and Bel-Air.”

UCLA returns starter Datone Jones at defensive end, plus Damien Holmes, who has received extensive playing time off the bench. Freshman Iuta Tepa will also be in the mix.

“Coaches told me I had a very good chance of playing early with their situation at defensive end,” Bryant said. “If I go out there and work hard, I have a chance to be in the early rotation.”
