We can see it now: Sepp Blatter, the Swiss gnome who doubles as president of FIFA and takes himself oh so seriously, meets the latest ambassador from the U.S., a man intent on bringing the World Cup back to these shores in 2018 or 2022. Sepp, meet Drew Carey.

Uh-oh.

The comedian, part owner of Major League Soccer’s Seattle Sounders and a committed follower of the U.S. national team, has accepted an invitation to join the board of directors of the U.S. bid committee.

That should liven up things. Prior to this, the closest thing the board had to a comic was Arnold Schwarzenegger, or perhaps Henry Kissinger. Fellow board members Mia Hamm and Landon Donovan can only applaud the move. Meetings should be a laugh a minute from here on.
