No one hotter than Robert Hight in NHRA funny cars

National Hot Rod Assn. funny car driver Robert Hight won for the second week in a row and took over the lead in the funny car standings. Hight beat Jack Beckman, a driver from North Hills, in the funny car final at Texas Motorplex on Sunday.

Larry Dixon, a Van Nuys High graduate, lost to Tony Schumacher in the top fuel final at Texas Motorplex. Schumacher leads Dixon by 33 points in the top fuel standings.

In the NASCAR Camping World Series West, Jason Bowles, a driver from Ontario, won his first West Series championship. He finished fourth in the West Series season finale at All American Speedway in Roseville on Saturday night.

Paulie Harraka won the West Series race at Roseville, his second of the season.
