Kings’ roster: Richard Clune starts season on injured reserve

The Kings officially announced their season-opening roster, which had no surprises because they made their final cuts a few days ago. The only footnotes are that they’re starting with 22 players instead of the maximum 23. Winger Richard Clune will start the season on injured reserve retroactive to Sept. 26 because of a groin pull, and defenseman Sean O’Donnell is ineligible for the first two games because of the carryover of his suspension for a match penalty he incurred during an exhibition game.
Here’s the list the Kings submitted to the NHL:
Goaltenders: Erik Ersberg, Jonathan Quick.
Defense: Drew Doughty, Davis Drewiske, Matt Greene, Jack Johnson, Alec Martinez, Sean O’Donnell, Rob Scuderi.
Forwards; Dustin Brown, Alexander Frolov, Michal Handzus, Peter Harrold, Raitis Ivanans, Anze Kopitar, Trevor Lewis, Teddy Purcell, Brad Richardson, Wayne Simmonds, Ryan Smyth, Jarret Stoll, Justin Williams.
According to a post on the Kings’ website,this average age of players on this season’s opening-night roster is younger than last season’s, but this team is more experienced. And one pound lighter.
The Kings will start the season against Phoenix on Saturday at Staples Center.
