It’s first sputter and then putter for Galaxy players

The Galaxy might have been teed off by last Saturday’s 6-3 home loss to FC Dallas, but it wasn’t until Monday that the players really teed off. That was at Coyote Hills in Fullerton, the golf course where the Galaxy Foundation held its annual ‘Day on the Links’ charity tournament.

The winning group -- a ‘very shady’ one, according to midfielder Chris Klein -- included defender Eddie Lewis, who was asked Friday if he was the best golfer on the MLS team.

‘I wish it were me, but truthfully I think Klein and Gordo [forward Alan Gordon] would probably duke it out,’ Lewis said. ‘They’re both pretty good.’

Klein said golf’s appeal is obvious.

‘It strikes a chord with a lot of athletes,’ he said. ‘There’s something about getting out there. All of us are competitive, so it’s a way for us to get out and sort of relax, although if you see us on the course....
