Floyd Mayweather Jr.‘s decision to come out of retirement looks as though it’s paid off in more ways than one. Not only did the 32-year-old boxer prove he’s still one of the best around, he also got the Internal Revenue Service off his back.

Mayweather has agreed to pay off $5.6 million he owes the IRS, using some of the $10 million he earned in his victory by unanimous decision over Juan Manuel Marquez on Saturday night.

The IRS already had planned to get a piece of Mayweather’s earnings from the fight, but the boxer’s decision to hand it over allowed everybody to walk away from what could have been an unpleasant situation. Mayweather is a good fighter, but he’s no match for tax collectors.

The good news is that Mayweather is finally debt-free, according to his tax lawyer. We’ll see if he can keep it up and pay Uncle Sam on time. If not, I’m sure ‘Money’ can find another payday in the ring.
