Once agan there will be a Niedermayer playing for New Jersey and a Niedermayer playing for Anaheim -- except the names are now reversed. Rob Niedermayer, who played for the Ducks last season and was not re-signed, today joined the New Jersey Devils. That’s the team his brother, Scott, left to sign with the Ducks in 2005 in hopes they’d be able to win the Stanley Cup together in Anaheim -- which they did in 2007.

Scott re-signed with the Ducks this summer after his original four-year deal expired, but Rob didn’t get an offer from the Ducks because they wanted to get younger and faster and have plenty of checking forwards to choose from. He had apparently toyed with the idea of playing in Russia but decided Newark was the more attractive alternative. We’ll leave it at that and wish him well.
